HAPPY 2013!!!

Happy 2013, everyone! I hope that you all had a happy and safe New Years Eve! Chris and I enjoyed a  very quiet night in. He got off work at 8pm, and I ended up falling asleep in the chair by 10. I think he moved me into bed at 11 and woke me up at 1150pm for the countdown. As soon as people stopped shooting off firecrackers, I was totally back in bed asleep. Pregnancy for the win (not).

I thought today would be fun to go take a look at my 2012 resolutions see how well I did at keeping them, and then make some 2013 resolutions as well! Here we go!

2012 RECAP

2012 was a pretty good year. A lot happened, and a lot of changes were set in place for 2013! Here's a quick breakdown of the year:

  • We went to Vegas! It was something on my bucket list, so that was awesome, and it was also the first time I flew in an airplane!
  • I went blonde (again)! That was a big change for me, but I think I'm definitely happier as a brunette.
  • I had the honor of being by my bestie's side as she finally said "I do" to the man of her dreams. They had an absolutely gorgeous wedding, and I'm so thrilled that I got to share in her day.
  • Chris and I decided it was time to start trying for a family, and we'll get to meet our little one in 2013!
  • 6 months after being hired, I got promoted to being a cashier supervisor in April.. and in December, I was promoted to management. 2 promotions in 8 months is pretty awesome, and I can't wait to keep working on my career to see where it takes me!
  • I started the Metro Atlanta Beauty Bloggers, and have met some amazing local women! They've become great friends, and they inspire me so much!
  • I was selected to be a Makeup Maven by the Atlanta-based Pretty in My Pocket (PRIMP) iPhone and iPad app. I've had a lot of fun working with the PRIMP team, and I can't wait to see how they grow the app!
  • I was also invited to become part of the AOL StyleList Curator Network. That email is definitely the most humbling one I have received to date. I couldn't even believe it was legitimate, but I was thrilled to accept!

Buying Murad and Philosophy products isn't really doing me much good if I don't take my makeup off at night to let my skin breathe. I'm SO bad about this.. it's ridiculous and gross. I'll even buy stock in the Pond's Evening Soothe Wipes if I have to.

I had been doing pretty good at this, but then laziness took back over. Plus, I've been able to master sleeping in my makeup and leaving it intact enough to just reapply some eyeshadow and blush before I have to be at work at 5am. Gross? Yes. But it means I get another 30 minutes of sleep, so I pretty much don't care.

I failed miserably at this in 2011.. but I want to get back to it. I used to drink a ton of water when I was in school and I felt better overall and had more energy. Plus, it goes along well with my next resolution...

Didn't do too well at this until after I got pregnant, but I drink about 40-60 ounces a day now. STILL no where near the 80oz I need while knocked up, but I think it's a start.

Chris and I are the worst culprits of "I don't wanna cook. Wanna grab Taco Bell?" and after 4-5 years of it.. I'm just so tired of eating from a drive-thru multiple nights a week. Plus it's expensive! So this year, I want us to focus more on eating meals at home, re-discovering the joys of our long neglected crock pot, and learning to love healthy foods again.

Yeah, we've done a decent job of this. We found a lot of awesome recipes through Pinterest this year, and we've also incorporated a lot of fish and sauteed veggies. Although sometimes I'm like "I want ___ or someone will die" since becoming pregnant, but all in all I think we do a good job of splitting the junk with healthier options. And at least I eat a lot of fruit now, too.

I feel like I've officially become internet-addicted. I wake up and the first thing I do is check my phone. I'm on FB and Twitter during my breaks at work. I answer blog emails from the shower.. It's ridiculous! And I feel like having a blog has kind of made the situation worse. I'm always working on a post or editing photos, answering emails, or talking to other bloggers. And while I enjoy all of those things.. I need to re-learn how to take some time away from technology and read a book (or magazine) or... I don't know.. what do you do without a computer in your lap? Well, I aim to find out!
Failed miserably at this. It's okay. I've gotten a lot done this year, though!

I used to be such a clean freak when we moved into our first and second apartments. But school and complacency broke me of the habitual cleaning. I'd like to get back to it because it's oddly calming for me.. and always a lot more manageable when you're only doing upkeep instead of having to deep clean everything.
We went through cycles with this, but for the most part I think we're doing better than we were. Seriously, though.. You can always do better at cleaning house, right?

2011 saw the rise (and fall) of my YT channels. Blogging is just so much easier and more convenient, but I do miss sitting down and filming videos too. I've contemplated closing my channels all-together.. but I figure I'll give it one more shot before I do.
Failed. Absolutely failed. And I'm okay with it. YT just doesn't fit into my life, and I've learned that I don't have to have a YT channel to be a successful blogger.

I took some daring risks in 2011. I conquered purple, turquoise, and hot pink shadow.. as well as intense smokey eyes and red and bright fuchsia lips. And that for me is a LOT. But I want to master blue and green shadows now... Maybe maroons too? Who knows! I have so many gorgeous shadow palettes that have half of the colors going unused. This is the year to change that!
I think I did pretty good! I branched out to silver, green, red, and blue! Plus I took risks with both orange and purple lipsticks! May 2013 see me try even more colors of the rainbow!

2011 marked the first time I'd had "non-natural" colors in my hair... and I LOVED it. I want to do it again.. but a lot safer this time. I'm not looking to have another 'hair confetti' episode OR spend 4 months trying to repair it from the severe damage it took. I've wrestled with dying it again because I *am* back to my natural color.. so the safe part of me says I should leave it alone. But I figure.. I'm young, and it's just hair. I might as well do it now! I've been thinking about going all over dark purple.. but who knows? I've got a whole year to figure it out!
I didn't go crazy, but first I went half black, half purple, except we didn't bleach my hair for the purple first and it was a complete flop. Then I went blonde.. which was pretty out of character for me! It was fun, but I definitely think I'm meant to be a brunette for a reason.

While I have a few very nice displays, there's still about half of my polishes that are in a storage container and it's honestly SUCH a hassle to dig through them. I can never find anything and it's so impractical. I think I definitely want Melmers.. so I'll be looking for some good deals on them!
Didn't get Helmers OR Melmers, but I want to do that soon. We recently freed up a corner in our living room, and I want to turn it into a polish corner instead of always sitting on the floor to do my nails. Now would be the perfect time to upgrade my polish storage system!

This is by far what freaks me out the most, no joke. But I'm sure I'll figure it out as I go along, and Chris and I have an amazing support system behind us.

I know having a newborn means becoming entirely more selfless than I could ever have imagined being in my entire life, but I still want to be able to make time for me. I don't want to be a mom who lets herself go!

MandysSecrets has both picked up and lost some steam in 2012. I used to pride myself in blogging regularly, but it seems like my schedule keeps changing and I've struggled to find a way to incorporate it into my daily routine. I think now that my promotion is in effect, I'm going to have a more regular schedule, but I'm concerned about how much extra time I'm going to have once our little one comes. I've been pretty hard on myself about my lack of posting in the later part of 2012, but my blog should be a source of creativity for me.. not stress. I resolve to blog as much as I can, but I won't stress myself out just to put up a post, or feel bad if I take breaks from blogging.

I'd like to thank you all for your support in 2012, and I look forward to 2013! I'd also love to hear your top resolutions, so feel free to share them in the comments!

I have today and tomorrow off of work, and I have a lot of sponsored reviews that I've been neglecting. I'm going to try to get those up in the next couple of weeks, so stay tuned!
