The fortune cookie that started it all..

Hey everyone! Happy Friday! I hope you've all had a wonderful week! I missed you! Today is our first day back at home from Vegas. We packed so much stuff into three days that it didn't feel like a vacation, but we had a fantastic time and I wanted to share a few pictures from the trip with you!

There are several veterinary conferences across the country, and the one we went to was the Western Veterinary Conference. It's held in Vegas every year at Mandalay Bay! Since Since Chris is a Registered Vet Tech, he's required by the state board to undergo so many hours of "Continuing Education" per year to keep his license valid.. and the lectures at the conference count towards that CE. Plus you get to see all the newest products and meet cool people... and our trip was paid for by his work. Conferences are awesome. :)

We got forced into taking pictures in a photo booth at the conference.
New York New York.. We rode the roller coaster. It was AWESOME!
My "big win" on the slots.
The MGM Lion. He's HUGE.
Fountain inside the MGM. It was in a secluded room.
Picture of the Rockies.
The MGM Lion at night. The lights behind him changed colors.
Fountains at the Bellagio. This was my favorite part of the trip!
The water cannons are SO loud! And those jets are taller than the building!
Inside the Forum Shops at Caesar's Palace.
Fountain inside the Forum Shops.
We got to see Bear Grylls (host of Man Vs. Wild) speak as part of the conference. He's SUCH a cool guy!
Dinner at the Rainforest Cafe in MGM on our last night after seeing Bear speak. We were looking all cute and stuff. :)
Flying over the desert on the way home.

Have you ever been to Vegas? If so, I'd love to know what your favorite experience was! We're definitely going to head back in a year or so for another conference!

MAKEUP TIP -- Fixing Clumpy Mascara

Hey everyone! No Friday Favorite today.. We have sooo much going on that I haven't even had time to stop and really digest anything this week. However, I do have a quick makeup tip for you!

I recently bought some new mascaras and opened them to find that they were... dry. :( And I didn't really have the time or energy to take them back and exchange them for different ones, so I started trying to think of quick solutions to make them return to normal.

Here's what I discovered: SALINE SOLUTION. 4-5 drops of saline contact solution or eye drops will refresh your mascara and make it like new again! Of course, this is no substitution for continuing to change your mascara every 3 months, but it can be a lifesaver if you find yourself in a bind!

I hope you all have a fabulous weekend! As of right now, I haven't had time to schedule posts while we're on our trip.. but we'll take our laptop with us so I might be able to get 1 or 2 up!

Also, if you have time.. be sure to check out Megan's Fashion Index! Megan and I have a mutual friend, BreAnn, who tipped me off to her blog! It's adorable! ♥

NOTD -- Valentines' Day!

I wanted to do something simple and cute for today's mani, and I knew there was no point in spending time on nail art when I was going to destroy my nails at work this morning.. so I went with Sally Hansen Salon Effects Strips in "Cross My Heart".

These are absolutely adorable and I snatched them up as soon as I saw them! "Cross My Heart" is the second set I've worn and I plan on doing a full review at a later date, but if you've been on the fence about trying these.. DO IT! I promise you won't regret it!

I hope all of you have a wonderful holiday! Chris and I are kind of "meh" about Valentines Day.. we celebrated it more early on in our relationship. This year, we've decided to eschew it in favor of having more money for our Vegas trip (We're leaving on Sunday! Ahhh!!!) and I just asked that I get a 50% box of chocolates tomorrow, lol. Classy, I know. ;)

I will, however, wish my darling parents a happy 35th wedding anniversary! That's an amazing accomplishment! As a kid, I always thought it was so cool that they got married on Valentines Day.. but I don't ever think I asked them what made them choose this date. Hmm.. I'll have to find out!

REVIEW -- GLEAM Lip Radiance Glosses by Melanie Mills

L-R: Pop My Cork, With My Heels On
Hey everyone! I hope all of you had a fabulous weekend! You may remember a couple of weeks ago when I shared the press release for Melanie Mills' new Lip Radiance Lip Glosses with you.. well today you get to see two of them in action!

I was able to choose a sample and I couldn't make up my mind between Pop My Cork and With My Heels on, so I asked them to pick for me.. imagine my surprise when I received BOTH of them! And they came beautifully packaged in an adorable little black bag!

The glosses come in seven shades, including: plum aubergine, coral, brick red, raspberry mauve, and others!

Pop My Cork is "a sexy, sheer, baby pink". It's actually a little bit of a challenge to get it opaque, and  I had to end up grabbing a lip brush to try to even the product out on my lips. Also, even though I used lip balm before I applied it.. you can see that it still manages to sink into my lip lines a little bit. Thankfully, it's not noticeable at all in person!

I was surprised that this turned as dark as it did on my lips, considering how pale it is in the tube. It might be because I applied several coats of it to make sure I had an even covering? I definitely like it though! It's very subtle and definitely a "my lips, but better" shade.

With My Heels On is described as "a pure pop of fuchsia pink". To me, it looks totally different than what is shown on the site:

I'm not complaining. I love a good cherry red as much as I love fuchsia, but I think it's something to take note of. This one was also challenging to get opaque, and you can see that I didn't really succeed that well on my top lip. In the future, I think I would wear this over a lip liner to get some extra coverage and hopefully keep the color in place. As you can see in the picture above, it had already migrated past the outer corner of my lower lip after about 5 minutes.

I love how shiny this one is! It looks like your lips are drenched in color, and it's definitely a statement-making gloss!

Overall, I like the GLEAM Lip Radiance Lip Glosses from Melanie Mills. They have a lovely vanilla scent, and are long-wearing. On the flip side, because they're long-wearing, they're also sticky and a little drying. I think in the future, I would layer these over a similar shade of lip liner or lipstick just so I didn't have to worry about whether or not I had an even coverage of gloss on my lips.

Pop My Cork is a bit dryer and slightly less shiny, while With My Heels on is very "wet" looking. Also, be warned: With My Heels does stain your lips, but it comes off very easily with makeup remover or a face wipe.

The glosses are 5g each and retail for $24.00. They are available on Melanie Mills' website. And don't forget... Until February 29th, 2012, Melanie's Lip Glosses will be BUY 2 GET 1 FREE! Enter promo code BEMINE at the checkout to take advantage of this amazing offer!

I'm pleased to give the GLEAM Lip Radiance glosses 4.0 out of 5.0 stars! I think they have a lot of potential, and I wish I'd had them for shows when I was dancing. They would have been great for locking in lip colors!
RATING: 4.0 out of 5 STARS

FRIDAY FAVORITES -- Wet N Wild Shadows

Image from Nouveau Cheap.
Hey everyone! Happy Friday! Today's Friday Favorite shouldn't come as a surprise to anyone.. it's Wet N Wild eye shadows! :D

If you know me, you know how I'll take any opportunity I can to rave about how amazing they are. They're very pigmented, smooth, and so blendable. Add in their amazing price and color selection and I'm absolutely hooked!

I also love how Wet N Wild isn't afraid to create bright and fun shadows, which is so unique for a drugstore brand. Honestly, even though I have several 88/96/100 color shadow palettes, I almost always end up reaching for my WnW shadows. I can't help it! And I always get compliments on my makeup!

If you haven't tried them yet, what are you waiting for?! You're totally missing out!

Hope everyone has a great weekend! Mine will consist of working and starting to pack for our Vegas trip that's coming up in a week. We FINALLY just booked our flight and hotel the other night (Procrastination?! Nahhh...), so that took a huge load off of my mind and I was all excited... until I realized I need to start packing. Once that's done, I'll be relieved.

NOTD -- Revlon's Popular

Hey everyone! Today I have a pretty pink polish to show you. This is Popular, and it's a part of Revlon's newly revamped core line. It might look familiar.. it was originally released last year as part of a LE collection and called Starry Pink. In fact, it's the only polish out of the trio that I didn't buy.

As a general rule of thumb, I'm not a fan of pastel pinks.. but once Starry Pink was gone and I kept seeing swatches, I regretted not getting it. I was ecstatic when it came back as Popular!

Popular/Starry Pink is a glorious squishy pink packed with silver micro glitter and large silver hex glitters. I'm wearing three coats and you can still see some VNL, so I might try layering it next time. All in all, application wasn't too bad. You kind of have to glop the polish on and spread the hex glitters around, but dry time was decent and it didn't get super thick or gummy.

I'm so glad I was able to add this one to my collection. For not liking pastel pinks, I actually really enjoy this color. It's very neutral, but the glitter gives it something extra and fun. It will make a great polish for Spring! :)

Purple Hair FAIL... :(

Not my hairs. I has a sad. :(
Hey everyone! Whew, I've had a day. About a month ago, I decided that I want -- nay, need-- purple hair. I was going to dye my whole head purple and it was going to be glorious. Unfortunately, my job did not approve. I need to have some sort of "natural" base to my hair for it to be work appropriate.

In the grand scheme of things, that's still pretty lenient.. so I decided to do black on top and purple on the bottom. I didn't want to bleach my hair, so I went with a semi-permanent purple over my natural brown. After grabbing some black semi-permanent dye, I grabbed my gloves and set to work.

I ended up with a purple-ish tint, but it wasn't very noticeable. And then the purple bled into the black and it just looked... meh. I hated it. Thus, I decided to bleach and re-dye the purple, and redo the black.. but with permanent color this time.

After consulting with my amazing stylist (which is probably what I should have done in the first place, truth be told), we decided to do heavy foil "highlights" on the purple part, so that it would be more of a "multi-dimensional purple peekaboo" with the black on top.

Unfortunately, my hair didn't take the purple. After trying twice, my whole head looks black. It's not bad.. I actually look great with black hair, and I finally got my side bangs back.. which I'm really excited about.. But I'm bummed that my hair is not purple.

It's not my stylist's fault. She's amazingly sweet and talented and I adore her. I'm not mad. I just have REALLY stubborn hair. It's almost like it's too porous and it sucks up too much color? I don't know how else to explain it. Anyways, we're going to give it a couple of weeks and try again with different products.

Sorry about the whiny post. I'm just sad and I needed somewhere to vent. I tried venting to the hubby, but I don't think he really gets it. Seriously, though. It took 5 hours for me to get black hair. I has a sad. :(

However.. my day seems much better after polishing off two cupcakes. Funny how chocolate and sugar can put things into perspective for you. I'll be sure to post pics when I finally get what I want! It's gonna be amazing!

Friday, February 3, 2012

Hey everyone! Happy Friday! Soo.. I've been having blogger problems. I have all these cool makeup things that I want to share with you, but my face is all broken out and my lips are super chapped.. It's totally attractive. You should be jealous. So yea, the last thing I want to do is take pictures of myself and post them on the internet, which explains the influx of nail posts and lack of posting in general. I hope you can understand!

Today's Friday Favorite is Zoya's Remove+ polish remover. It's a combination of acetone and glycerine and is a 3-in-1: polish remover, nail prep, and nail conditioner. It's supposed to moisturize, nourish, and condition the nail plate.

What I love about it (besides the fact that it smells like lavender!) is that it doesn't dry my nails out like 100% acetone, but it removes my polish just as well. And for someone who changes their polish 3-4x a week, having hydrated nails is a huge plus. I hate having to buff out peelies!

I also love the Big Flipper (pictured above). The cap can lock into place for safe traveling, but the pump dispenser is so convenient and has revolutionized the way I remove my polish. And it's awesome that there's also a big 32oz refill size.

It's official.. I'm addicted. :)
