A while back, I wrote a post on which type of powder was better: pressed or loose? In it, I gave you the argument for both sides and then shared my opinion. Recently, I was talking with a friend and we were discussing how we apply our makeup. She applies her concealer before her foundation, I do the opposite. And that made me want to do another "Makeup Musings" post. So.. here it is!
Like with powder, almost everyone has a different view point on whether concealer or foundation should come first. And again, I don't think this is another "right or wrong" situation.. I think it depends largely on your personal preference.
HERE ARE MY THOUGHTS:
If you're using a powder foundation, then I definitely recommend using your concealer first. Applying a concealer over powder wouldn't give you a very good finish, and you'd probably have to use another layer of loose powder to set everything.
However, if you're using a liquid foundation, I strongly suggest applying your foundation before your concealer for several reasons:
- First, your foundation is meant to provide coverage on its own. Let that coverage work in your favor! You may not end up needing as much concealer as you originally think.
- Second, let your primer and foundation help you by smoothing out the surface of your skin, making your concealer easier to blend.
- And finally, if you apply your concealer first, it's more likely to wear off while you're blending in your foundation.. which means you'll have to reapply it anyways.

What are your thoughts? Concealer or foundation first?
