So I've been really honest with y'all about the fact that I have been fake baking myself for the past couple of months, even though I don't recommend that you do it because it's not safe. I've also shared my fake tanning expertise with you in my wonderful three-part series. Thus, it should be no surprise to you that I have recently started cocktail tanning again.
What is 'cocktail tanning,' you ask? It's when you fake bake/lay out and use fake tanning products congruently. Originally when I went to WalMart to grab my fake tanner, I was going to reach for my tried and trusted Jergen's Natural Glow.. but then I saw an aisle display of Ocean Potion's Ever Glow Moisturizer with skin darkeners. I've used Ocean Potion products before and really liked them, so I thought I'd give this a try. Here's what I think of it:
So one of the reasons I was so willing to give Ocean Potion a try is the price. You get 20.5 fl oz for $3.98. Um, HELLO! Can we say "bargain"?! Jergen's Natural Glow can range anywhere from $7.50 to $10. Which is why this post doubles as a 'Get the Look (For Less!)' ...Awesome!
I'm going to post a picture of the back of the bottle with the claims and instructions because it's the only way I can show you the color scale they provide on the back of the bottle:
I guess because the bottle is slightly colored, I expected the lotion to be colored.. buuuuut it's not. And I wasn't exactly prepared for that because I basically refuse to use any tanner that doesn't have a color to it for fear of streaking and looking like a fried zebra. However, I had already decided that I wasn't going to exfoliate or do any fancy preparations before applying Ever Glow, so I threw caution to the wind and applied it anyways.
As I said, the lotion itself it white. The pump dispenses a nice amount into your hand that is easy to work in. The lotion itself is slightly on the thinner side which also helps with the application. The smell is the same as any other Ocean Potion product.. amazing! Chris says it smells like a Creamsicle. I think it smells like an orange gumball. Either way, it smells really good! But be conscious of the fact that it is a self-tanner and after a couple hours you will develop that kind of salty, self-tanner smell. Although it's not nearly as bad as some other products on the market.
And now for the results.. Since I've been in the tanning bed for the past 2 months, I obviously was not starting off pale, but I did expect to either turn a little orange from this product or see no difference at all. I always apply my fake tanning stuff before I go to bed at night and then wash it off in the morning. I woke up to find that I was gloriously bronzed. Not streaky, not orange, no orange palms (AND I DIDN'T USE GLOVES!)... just... tan! And I literally could not have been happier!
This is my third day using Ever Glow and my tan is really starting to deepen to a new level that I wasn't getting from the tanning bed. Like, I've been tan but the tan was more of a golden color. Ever Glow has deepened it to a darker brown. You can see what I mean in the screen shot below from my upcoming skincare routine video:
|Nothing like an awkward screen cap to lighten the mood, haha!|
Also, I'd like to take a moment and tell you something awkward, but I feel it needs to be shared: I applied an extra layer of Ever Glow before Chris and I went to dinner the other night so that I would have a nice glow at dinner.. and I decided to do a test. I wore a white bra and undies to see how badly Ever Glow would rub off onto my clothes (because you know that self-tanners ALWAYS rub off) and this one didn't! I was shocked. Literally, shocked. So, yet another plus for Ever Glow!
Due to it's amazing low price, huge bottle and all-around awesomeness... Ever Glow has just beat out Jergen's Natural Glow for my most beloved gradual self-tanner. Whenever I review a product, I always look up reviews on several different websites to see the overall ranking of a product to see if there are any predominant issues that other consumers have that I didn't experience so that I can share them with you in the interest of giving you the fairest review possible. The lowest star rating I saw Ever Glow get was a 4 out of 5 on any website, and even that was rare. Most users give this a 5/5 and 80% of users on MakeupAlley would buy Ever Glow again.
So, if you're looking for something new and cheap to give you a great natural tan for summer.. I definitely suggest checking out Ocean Potion's Ever Glow. Even though I just bought a bottle I'm going to go back and stock up on a couple more!
Also.. you can buy Ever Glow on Amazon if it's a product you'd be interested in using year-round!
