Beauty Survey

I thought this would be a fun little blog to do, just so that you can get to know me and my beauty habits a little better. I actually found the original survey that I wanted to do through a Google search, but the lovely Heather from Heather's Love of Makeup has a very similar survey on her blog that contained slightly different questions. I combined the two surveys to make this one. Enjoy!

How many times do you wash your face daily?
Well, if I don't wear makeup... usually once a day. If I am wearing makeup, twice a day.

What skin type do you have?
I definitely have oily skin, but thankfully I'm not prone to acne. I've just recently found the skincare routine that works best for me and I've absolutely fallen in love with it. I'm going to do a video on it soon for y'all. :)

What is your current facial wash?
just found Olay's Pore Minimizing Cleanser + Scrub about a week ago. It's really cool because both products are swirled together and you pump them out. And it really does minimize my pores! I was so excited about that! The smell is very perfume-y, though. Chris and I have equated it to fabric softener. So it might not be for everyone.

Do you exfoliate?
Of course! EVERYONE needs to exfoliate. I usually use St. Ives' Apricot Blemish & Blackhead Control Scub. I even use it on my body, too. And every once in a while I'll treat myself by making my own lemon sugar scrub with freshly squeezed lemon juice and sugar. It smells sooo yummy and you can eat it! Haha!

What is your favorite skincare line?
I'm not a "brand loyal" person. I use what I what works best for me from several different lines.

What moisturizer do you use?
I know I'm going to sound like a broken record with this.. but I use the Garnier Nutritioniste Moisture Rescue Gel Cream. And I am in ♥ with it. For the longest time, I never used a moisturizer because I was afraid it would make my oily skin worse, but that's so counterproductive! The oil your face produces is NOT the moisture that it needs. Since I've been using my moisturizer, my face has actually been less oily!

Do you have freckles?
Ish? I have a very light dusting across my nose that you can only see during the summer.

Do you use eye cream?
No. I want to try the Garnier eye rollers, but I just haven't gone out and bought them yet. I've heard they're both amazing.

Do you or did you have acne prone skin?
Oh my God yes. High school was an absolute NIGHTMARE. And then in my senior year, I had a horrible case of psoriasis --on my face!-- that nothing would cure and I tried to cover it up with makeup... but it just kept flaking off with my skin. Constantly. It was NOT attractive and I got made fun of for it a lot. :\

Did you ever have to use Pro-activ?
No, I've never used Pro-Activ. I did try Acne Free, which is supposed to be "better" but it did nothing except dry my face out.

Do you use sunscreen?
On a daily basis? No. Even though I know that I should. If I'm going to be out in the sun all day, then I do.

Do you have regular facial treatments?
No. Sometimes I'll have a DIY facial night at home, but I don't do them often.

Do you spray water on your face during summer?
No.

One skincare routine that is a MUST for you?
Definitely removing my eye makeup. Sometimes I'm bad and I'll just take off my eye makeup and skip washing my face for the night, but my eye makeup always has to come off or it will end up halfway down my face by the next morning!

What foundation do you use?
95% of the time, I don't use foundation. I use CoverGirl's AquaSmoothers tinted moisturizer instead. I'm very lucky to have clear skin, but I don't like applying makeup without having some time of coverage on my face. The tinted moisturizer provides just color to even out my complexion AND it has SPF 15, which I like.

If I do wear foundation, either because I need extra coverage due to a breakout or because I'm going to be photographed, I use CoverGirl's Clean liquid foundation. It's oil free and it helps with shine control. Plus it's still only a medium coverage, which I like.

How about concealer?
I use Maybelline's CoverStick in Fair. It's a great stick concealer that is just a smidge lighter than my skin tone, so it's great for subtly brightening my under eye area. But I can also use it to cover blemishes and redness and it blends in with my skin. Sometimes I also use Victoria's Secret Very Sexy liquid concealer on days when I have dark circles.

Do you know your undertone colour?
I lean slightly towards the cool side, but I can also be neutral.

What do you think of false eyelashes?
I think they're fun. I've never mastered how to apply them, no matter how many YouTube videos I watch and how many times I try. Instead, I prefer to use mascaras to build my lashes up to achieve a "falsie" look.

Did you know that you are supposed to change your mascara every 3 months?
Yup. My Mommy taught me that when I started using makeup and it's something I've strictly adhered to.

What brand of mascara do you use?
If I'm doing "full" makeup, then I use 3 mascaras. First up is Maybelline Great Lash. I use 2 coats on top and 1 on bottom. Then I use 2 coats of CoverGirl Lash Blast Fusion on top and finish up with 2 coats of essence Lash Mania on top. This gives me the "falsie" look every day and it's cheaper than repeatedly buying lashes!

If I'm just running out the door with 5 minute makeup, then I only use 1 coat of Maybelline Great Lash on top and bottom.

Sephora or Ulta?
Sephora has a better selection of high end makeup. However, I think their prices are also higher. Ulta has a great selection of high end makeup combined with drug store staples... and lower prices. For that reason, I have to say Ulta. Plus, I absolutely loved getting to go shopping with my Mom at Ulta when I was a teenager, so it also brings back fond memories!

Do you have a MAC pro-card?
Nope!

What make-up tools do you use in make up application?
I have an Ulta Professionals brush set supplemented with some other random brushes that I've picked up along the way. For my eye shadow base, I use a sponge tip applicator and I use my fingers to blend my concealer.

Do you use make up base/primer for the eyes?
Yes! I am absolutely in love with NYX's Eye Shadow Base in 02. It's this gorgeous white pearl base that brightens up any color you put over it. I also have the same base in flesh tone, but I never use it.

For the face?
I would like to try one to see if it makes a difference, but I don't use any at the moment.

What is your favorite eyeshadow (color or shade)?
I have blue eyes, so browns and taupes really make my eyes pop. This is also convenient, because I favor neutral colors. Lavender is a color that is universally flattering on everyone, and I have started experimenting with hot pink and I've found that I rather like it as well!

Do you use pencil or liquid eyeliner?
I use both. I use a kohl liner on my upper water line, and sometimes on my lower as well topped with a matte black eyeshadow. And I use liquid above my lash line (and sometimes below, too).

How often do you poke your eyes with a pencil eyeliner?
Never! I'm blessed with a steady hand.

What do you think of pigment eye shadows?
I'm learning to love them! Like I said, I'm slowly conquering my fear of colored eye shadows.

Do you use mineral make-up?
No, my mom does and she loves it. I just haven't made the switch.

What is your favorite lipstick?
Oooo... I don't know. I don't really wear lipstick. I have a handful of them, but I don't use any enough to have a "favorite."

How about lip gloss?
essence lip gloss has definitely become my favorite. I have 3 favorite shades: a nude, a hot pink and a pale pink shimmer that will get me through any situation. The formula is amazing and not even the slightest bit sticky. It doesn't dry my lips out, and you get a big tube for $1.99. There's nothing better than that! You can only buy essence cosmetics at Ulta, though.

What is your favorite blush to use?
Lately, I have been using (and loving) Rimmel blush. For Spring, I'm using Rimmel's 'Tickle Me Pink'. During Summer and early Fall, I switch over to Rimmel's 'Autumn Catwalk'; and for late Fall into Winter, I use Rimmel's "Pink Sorbet' which is actually more of a peach than a pink.

However, with that being said... If I were to pick an all time favorite blush brand, it would probably be VS.

Do you buy your makeup on Ebay?
No. You never know what people do to things in the privacy of their own home. However, I do buy makeup, hair and beauty products from retailers on Amazon. For instance, I bought a SHANY 96 Color eye shadow palette from the SHANY Cosmetics Amazon store.

Do you like drugstore makeup?
Ohhhh yes. I am definitely a proud drugstore diva at heart. And I'm perfectly okay with that. I have no problem splurging on a high end product if I absolutely love it, though!

Do you go to CCO's (cosmetic company outlets)?
Umm... no. But where can I find one?!

Did you ever consider taking make-up classes?
Not yet, but I want to! I think it would be really fun!

Are you clumsy in putting on makeup?
No, I'm always very careful. However, I do suffer from the occasional accident like everyone else. That's why Q-Tips are amazing!

Name a makeup crime that you hate?

Ohhh... There are so many! I guess my top 3 would be:
  • Not matching your face makeup to your skin.
    • And subsequently not blending it into your neck, just to make it MORE obvious.
  • Having a prominently obvious lip line and/or using a heavily frosted lipstick.
    • These looks look good on NO ONE.
  • Wearing too much color.
    • If you want to have dramatic eyes, or dramatic lips.. great! Pick ONE area and leave the rest of your face neutral.

Do you like colorful shades of makeup (lipstick, eyeshadow) or neutral ones?
I think colorful shades are wonderful... in moderation. Like I answered above, if you want a lot of color please keep it in one area of your face. Not all over!

Which celebrity always has great make up?
I think Katy Perry always looks stunning. I'm a huge fan of the retro pin up look, and she always pulls it off to perfection. She can also rock really bright and crazy makeup while still managing to make it look wearable and she looks amazing with a "natural" look.

If you could leave the house using just ONE make up item, what would you use?
Definitely mascara. However, if I had dark circles that day, I'd probably have to say concealer instead.

Could you ever leave the house without any makeup on?
Of course! I do it all the time.

Do you think you look good without any make up on?
I think "good" might be a stretch, but I wouldn't say that I send small children running away screaming in terror. Haha, just kidding. In all seriousness, I think I just look like a plain version of myself without makeup on.

In your opinion, what is the BEST makeup line?
As I said with skincare, I'm not a "brand loyal" person. I like what I like.

What do you think of make up?
I think makeup is a great way to polish your look, explore a new creative outlet for your self expression and help it can help boost your self-confidence. However, it's important to remember that true beauty comes from within and that's the most important part.

Well! That was fun! What do you think? Are there any questions you're just dying to answer yourself? If so, post the answers below!

♥,
M
